Set the Kontrol Tower top vent and it holds its setting as the dome opens and closes. The Air Lift hinge takes the weight of the dome, a double-thick fibreglass gasket seals it and a self-closing stainless-steel latch holds it. Inside, the AMP firebox holds the coals, and the ash drawer and ash tool make the morning-after clean-up quick.

LONG AFTERNOONS, SLOW FIRES

Late light over the water, the dome up for a quick look and a whole chicken nearly there. The kamado stands out in the open on its cart, well clear of the house and the trees, while the pap, chakalaka and mielies wait on the table.

The two-tier Divide & Conquer cooking system gives you more than one level to cook on, with 304 stainless-steel cooking grates. Sear on one, keep something gentle on the other, and use the ceramic heat shield for smoking and indirect cooking.
THE CLEAN-UP
Ash out, job done.
The ash drawer and the ash tool keep clean-up simple. Wait until the coals and ash are completely cold before you open the drawer.

Which fuel does it use?
Charcoal. The Classic II has a maximum charcoal load of 2.7 kg. Charcoal is not included.
How hot does it get?
The listed heat range is 107 °C to 398 °C. Control it with the Kontrol Tower top vent, and read the heat on the built-in thermometer.
How much cooking space is there?
The cooking grate has a nominal diameter of 460 mm, and the two-tier Divide & Conquer system gives you more than one level to cook on.
Where can I use it?
Outdoors only, on stable, non-combustible ground. Keep at least 3,000 mm from walls, rails and other structures and from anything that can burn, such as wood, dry plants, grass or canvas. Never use it under a roof, pergola or other overhead structure.
How much space does it take?
On its cart it measures 1,181 mm wide with the side shelves out, 760 mm deep from handle to hinge and 1,230 mm high with the dome closed. The cart is 800 mm wide at the casters. Plan the 3,000 mm clearance around it too.
How do I clean out the ash?
Use the ash tool and the ash drawer. Wait until the coals and ash are completely cold before you open the drawer. The instruction manual covers the details.
How heavy is it?
The grill is listed at 104 kg. It stands on a powder-coated steel-wire cart, and the wheels lock so it stays put once it is in place.
What does the warranty cover?
The ceramic parts have a limited lifetime Kamado Joe warranty for as long as the original purchaser owns the grill, under normal use. Other parts have their own terms, and proof of purchase and exclusions apply. Ask us for the full terms.
