THE 800 DROP-IN

Clean lines and a row of real flame.

The 800 Drop-In is a flueless gas fireplace for indoors, so there is no chimney to build. It sits in a non-flammable bench or plinth and shows only its slim frame, the controls and a bed of black ash ringed by white stones. A press of the piezo spark lights it, and an oxygen depletion pilot keeps watch while you settle in.

No TV or other electrical equipment, and nothing combustible, above the fireplace.

A SLOW START TO THE DAY

Mornings start better by the fire.

Winter sun on the floorboards, coffee on the long table and the dog already asleep on the rug. In the whitewashed bench under the window, a row of flames takes the chill off breakfast, and nobody has to fetch firewood. Stay for a second cup and watch the morning light move across the room.

The whitewashed bench, window, dining table and chairs, rug, vases and flowers are not included. Your registered gas installer plans the housing, ventilation and gas connection.

THE FLAME

A real flame with no flue.

The 800 Drop-In is flueless, so there is no chimney to build and no flue to take through the roof. Piezo spark ignition lights the burner whenever you want a fire.

THE ROOM

Room to breathe.

We recommend the 800 Drop-In for rooms of up to 399 m³ (108 m²). A room without permanent ventilation must be at least 160 m³, and bedrooms, bathrooms, toilets and saunas are out.

THE BENCH

Air in below the bench.

The fireplace drops into a 720 × 260 mm cut-out in a non-flammable bench or housing. Two brick-sized ventilation holes go below the unit, and the two supplied vent covers finish them neatly.

Build the bench around a 720 × 260 mm cut-out.

Below the 780 × 300 mm frame, the body drops 150 mm and measures 230 mm front to back; the controls stand above the frame. These are product sizes: your registered gas installer checks the actual unit, the housing and the clearances before you build.

Keep 500 from curtains and fabric at the sides.

What comes in the box?

The 800 Drop-In fireplace in the frame finish you pick, its burner, the decorative stones (black ash for the burner, white stones around it), two vent covers and the instruction manual. You arrange the non-flammable housing, the gas supply and the installation.

Does it run on LPG or natural gas?

Chad-O-Chef builds the 800 Drop-In for LPG, with a separate natural-gas model. Please confirm your gas type with us before you order. The LPG model burns up to 0.64 kg of gas an hour at an operating pressure of 2.8 kPa, and the natural-gas model runs at 2.1 kPa.

How big a room is it suited to?

We recommend the 800 for rooms up to 399 m³ (108 m²), depending on insulation, building materials and climate. Without permanent ventilation, the room needs at least 160 m³.

Where in the house can it go?

Keep it out of bedrooms, bathrooms, toilets and saunas. A room smaller than 160 m³ needs permanent ventilation, planned by your gas installer. We also recommend against fitting it within 500 mm of an air vent.

Is there a flue to build?

No. It is an indoor flueless gas fireplace. An oxygen depletion system on the pilot (ODS min 18.5% oxygen) is part of its safety setup, so follow the room and ventilation rules on this page.

How does it fit into a bench or plinth?

It drops into a 720 × 260 mm cut-out in a non-flammable bench or plinth. Cut two brick-sized ventilation holes into the housing below the unit; the two supplied vent covers finish them. A gas installer registered with SAQCC Gas for your gas type connects it at the 8 mm compression gas inlet.

What clearances does it need?

Keep combustible materials at least 100 mm from its sides, with 500 mm to curtains and fabric. Leave 800 mm to the ceiling, 100 mm to the floor (carpet included) and 1,000 mm to combustible furniture in front. Your installer works from the full manual.

Can anything go above it?

You may fit a heat-resistant masonry shelf 800 mm above the fireplace. Nothing combustible may go above it, and no TV or other electrical equipment.

Which finishes can I choose?

The frame comes in brushed stainless steel or matt black mild steel: pick one on this page. The burner holds black ash with white stones around it as standard; large black coals or fire glass are Chad-O-Chef's alternatives, so ask us first.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes. The fireplace has a two-year Chad-O-Chef guarantee, subject to its terms and conditions. Ask us for the full terms.
