Room for big logs.
One control to run it.
The Rock 500 takes logs up to 50 cm long, so you split less and sit back more. One air control sets the fire, and the slam-lock door latches as you close it. Secondary combustion and a refractory floor with an ash hatch do the rest, at 80% efficiency at nominal output. Connect the flue at the top or the rear, and bring in outside air if your room needs it.
Dovre's manual says not to place firewood underneath the stove, so keep your logs in a basket nearby.

GAME NIGHT BY THE FIRE
Deal the cards.
The fire has this.
When the evening turns cold, everyone ends up near the fire. Bring out the board games, a platter from the braai and a good red, and let the Rock 500 keep the room warm while the game runs late. Its wide window keeps the flames on show all night.
The flue pipe, hearth plate, firewood, furniture, food and décor are not included. Dovre advises against storing firewood under the stove. Have an independent installer confirm the hearth, flue route and clearances.
BEFORE THE FIRST FIRE
Heat, fire and flue, sorted.
THE FIRE
Simple to run, easy to tend.
One air control, a slam-lock door and room for logs up to 50 cm long. The fire burns on a refractory floor with an ash hatch, with secondary combustion, and an ash tray comes with the stove.
THE CONNECTIONS
Top or rear: you choose.
The 150 mm flue connects at the top or the rear, which helps when you plan around a wall or a chimney. A 100 mm outside-air connection lets the fire take its air from outside.

Plan the stove, hearth and flue together.
These are the stove's own sizes, not a hearth or room size, and the 660 mm width does not include the handle. Dovre asks for 1,400 mm to combustible materials in front, so plan the whole space with an independent installer and the manual.

GOOD TO KNOW
Plan your setup.
Read your instruction manual before you plan the installation.
What is included?
The Dovre Rock 500 wood stove in black on its wood base, with its door and ash tray. It has a refractory floor with an ash hatch, a single air control, a slam-lock door and an outside-air connection. Flue pipes, other accessories and installation are not included.
Which fuel does it burn?
Wood. The firebox takes logs up to 50 cm long. Burn dry firewood, and ask us before you plan to burn anything else.
How much heat does it give?
Dovre rates the Rock 500 at 9 kW nominal output, with 80% efficiency at nominal output. The South African distributor lists a maximum of 11 kW. The Output Calculator uses 10 kW, the middle of the two. Insulation, ceiling height and climate change how warm a room feels.
Can I keep firewood in the base?
No. Dovre's manual says not to place firewood underneath the stove. Keep your logs in a basket or rack nearby, at the distance your installer advises.
Where does the flue connect?
At the top or the rear, through a 150 mm flue connection. For a rear connection, the centre is 610 mm above the floor. For a top connection, the centre is 135 mm from the back of the stove. Plan the route with an independent installer before you build.
Is the flue included?
No. Flue pipes and other accessories are sold separately, because they depend on your room and roof. Send a photo, your room measurements and roof details for a product and flue configuration quote.
Can it draw air from outside?
Yes. Dovre includes an outside-air connection: a 100 mm collar with its centre 240 mm above the floor. Ask your installer whether your room needs outside air, and plan the duct with the manual.
How much space does it need?
It is a freestanding stove: 660 mm wide without the handle, 375 mm deep and 745 mm high, and weighs 145 kg, so check that your floor can carry it. Dovre's minimum distances to combustible materials are 1,400 mm in front, 400 mm at the sides, 500 mm behind and 750 mm above, and 100 mm to non-combustible materials. Your installer applies the full list in the manual.
How do I run the fire?
With a single air control, so there is one setting to learn. The slam-lock door latches as you close it, and the stove has secondary combustion. The fire burns on a refractory floor with an ash hatch, and an ash tray comes with the stove. Let the ash cool fully before you empty it, and read the manual before the first fire.
Does it come in other colours or bases?
This page sells the Rock 500 in black on its wood base. We also list it on a tablet base. Ask us if you are looking for another finish, and we will check what we can offer.
What does the guarantee cover?
The South African distributor gives a limited five-year guarantee on the main stove body. Exclusions and claim conditions apply, so ask us for the full terms.
Can you help with my setup?
Yes. Send a photo and your room measurements for a product and flue configuration quote. We do not install, so arrange installation with an independent installer.
