WhatsApp UsMORE ABOUT THE 800 BASIC
The 800 Basic keeps things simple. Light the fire with wood or charcoal, let it burn down to good coals, then get the chops and wors onto the electroplated grid. Hang a potjie on the holder for something slow and switch on the light as the evening comes. The ash pan catches what falls, and the doors close it all up afterwards.
AN AFTERNOON AT HOME
The lemon tree throws a little shade, the chops are turning and someone is already waiting with a plate. Built into a garden wall, the 800 Basic EconoMaster keeps the braai simple: a good fire, two chops and a coil of wors on the grid, a bowl of salad on the table and the family close by.
The wall, counters, table, plants, food, plates and drinks are not included. Plan the flue and clearances with an independent installer.
A LITTLE PRACTICAL THINKING
THE GRID
The electroplated mild-steel grid measures 780 × 310 mm, with room for chops and wors together. Hang a potjie from the potjie holder for something slow.
THE FIRE
The Basic has no ember maker, so build your fire of wood or charcoal and let it burn down to coals before the grid goes on. The ash pan catches the ash for an easy clean-up.
THE BODY
The body is 2.5 mm mild steel with a high-heat black paint. Close the top and bottom doors when the braai is not in use.
MEASURE THE WHOLE SETUP
Plan the body, gather and flue together.
The 780 mm body height does not include the 220 mm gather above it, or the flue. Ask us to confirm the body depth before you build. These are product dimensions, not a building opening: have your installer check the actual unit and safe clearances.
GOOD TO KNOW
Read your instruction manual before you plan the installation.
The 800 Basic EconoMaster braai in black, with top and bottom doors, an ash pan, an electroplated mild-steel grid, a potjie holder and a light fitting. The instruction manual comes with it. The Basic has no ember maker. The flue pipe, collar and cowl are options on this page, sold separately.
No. The 800 Basic comes without an ember maker. Build your fire of wood or charcoal and let it burn down to coals before you cook.
The electroplated mild-steel grid is 780 mm wide and 310 mm deep. The potjie holder takes a potjie for something slow alongside.
No. You can add a Homefires flue pipe, a collar and a cowl on this page: a rotating cowl or a fixed cowl, each with a slip-on base. A cowl helps keep rain out of the flue. Send a photo and measurements for a flue and configuration quote, and we will confirm the right parts for your setup.
At the neck on top of the gather, which rises 220 mm above the body. The neck measures 330 × 230 mm on the outside, and its front sits 95 mm back from the front of the body. The inside of the chimney must be at least as big as the flue outlet opening, so have your installer measure the unit before building.
At least 2.5 m. If the flue must be offset, keep the angle to 45 degrees or less and use brackets so the flue does not sag. Roofs differ, so ask us about your roof, and have an independent installer plan the route.
The body is 830 mm wide and 780 mm high, and the gather rises 220 mm above it. The front frame is 885 mm wide and 810 mm high. Opened, the lower door reaches 430 mm in front of the body. Ask us to confirm the body depth before you build the opening. These are product dimensions, not a building opening; have your installer check the actual unit and safe clearances.
Leave a 20 mm expansion gap between the body and the brickwork at the sides and the back. The manual asks for fibreglass insulation over the sides, back and top, so plan it with your installer. Keep the finished brickwork from sticking out past the flange, so the top door can stay open.
Yes. Homefires describes an indoor installation in a well-ventilated room. Follow the instruction manual, and have an independent installer plan the chimney, the clearances and the ventilation.
Let the ash cool fully before you empty the ash pan. The ash pan measures 780 × 330 mm and is 120 mm high. Close the top and bottom doors when the braai is not in use, and keep it maintained as the instruction manual describes.
Homefires guarantees the EconoMaster firebox for 5 years against faulty workmanship or material under normal use. Loose, replaceable parts are not covered, and neither are rust, lack of maintenance, misuse, water leakage or incorrect installation. Ask us for the full terms.
