The Universal Grate 700 is a flueless gas grate made for a traditional double-sided wood-burning fireplace. Set it in your existing opening and the flames still show in both rooms, while the old chimney is closed off. The fire bed is black ceramic coals on black ash, ringed with white stones. It runs on LPG or natural gas and lights with a piezo spark.
The firebox is not included: the grate goes into your existing double-sided fireplace.

A QUIET AFTERNOON IN

Books on one side, the lounge on the other, and a fire glowing through the wall between them. The Universal Grate 700 brings gas flames to your double-sided fireplace, so a slow Sunday afternoon starts with a spark, not a trip to the woodpile. Pick a side and settle in.
The plastered fireplace opening, the armchairs, bookshelves and décor are not included. The grate goes into your existing double-sided fireplace; a SAQCC Gas registered installer connects it.

THE ROOM

Chad-O-Chef suggests it for rooms up to 438 m³ (132 m²), depending on insulation, materials and climate. Below 198 m³ the room needs permanent ventilation. It must not go in a bedroom, bathroom, toilet or sauna.
THE GAS
Your gas, installed properly.
It runs on LPG or natural gas, installed for your gas type by a SAQCC Gas registered installer. A piezo spark lights it, and an oxygen depletion pilot is part of its safety setup.

The grate is 705 mm wide, 460 mm deep and 220 mm high to the top of its tabs, without the control knobs. Measure your double-sided opening, and have your gas installer check the fit and the clearances.

What is included?
The Universal Grate 700 with its burner, the decorative stones and the instruction manual. The double-sided fireplace (firebox) is not included, and neither are closing off the chimney, the gas supply pipework or the installation.
Will it fit my fireplace?
It is made to retrofit into a traditional double-sided wood-burning fireplace. The grate is 705 mm wide, 460 mm deep and 220 mm high to the top of its tabs; the control knobs are not in these sizes. Send us a photo and the measurements of your opening, and we will check the fit with you before you order.
Do I still need my chimney?
No. This is a flueless gas grate, so the existing chimney is closed off. Plan that with your installer as part of the conversion.
Which gas does it use?
LPG or natural gas. The installation must suit your gas type, so confirm yours with us before you order. A piezo spark lights it.
What size room is it for?
Chad-O-Chef suggests it for rooms up to 438 m³ (132 m²); the right size depends on insulation, materials and climate. A room smaller than 198 m³ needs permanent ventilation, which your installer calculates.
How much heat does it give?
Chad-O-Chef gives a maximum gas input for this grate, not a certified heat output, so we do not list a heat output and the Output Calculator has no figure for it. Ask us, and we will help you compare it with your rooms.
What keeps it safe?
An oxygen depletion system on the pilot (ODS, minimum 18.5% oxygen) is part of its safety setup. It must not go in a bedroom, bathroom, toilet or sauna, and a SAQCC Gas registered installer for your gas type installs it.
How much clear space does it need?
Keep combustible material 100 mm from its sides, a combustible floor (carpet included) 100 mm away, curtains and fabric 500 mm from its sides, combustible furniture 1,000 mm in front and the ceiling 800 mm away. A heat-resistant masonry shelf may sit 500 mm above it.
Which fire bed does it come with?
Black ceramic ash with black ceramic coals and a white stone surround. Chad-O-Chef also makes a fire glass finish: ask us about it before you order.
What does the guarantee cover?
Chad-O-Chef gives a two-year guarantee on the fireplace. Its terms and conditions apply; ask us for the full terms.
Can you help with my setup?
Yes. Send a photo and the measurements of your fireplace opening for a product and configuration quote. We do not install: arrange the conversion with an independent, SAQCC Gas registered installer for your gas type.
