The 1200 Drop-In is an indoor gas fireplace with no flue to build. It drops into a non-flammable housing, the body sits out of sight below the frame, and a long line of flame rises from black ash framed by white stones. Press the piezo spark to light it, and an oxygen depletion pilot keeps watch while it burns.
Not for bedrooms, bathrooms, toilets or saunas. Keep a TV and anything combustible away from the space above the fireplace.

STAY A LITTLE LONGER

Supper's done, the city lights flicker on beyond the glass and the conversation moves to the sofa. A long row of flames dances in the stone plinth, and the lounge end of the open-plan room becomes the place everyone wants to be. Pour one more rooibos and let the evening run late.
The stone plinth and its long grilles, the wall art, furniture and décor are not included. Plan the housing, ventilation and gas connection with a registered gas installer.

THE HOUSING

The non-flammable housing needs two brick-sized ventilation holes below the unit. The two supplied vent covers finish them neatly, so plan them with the 1,120 × 260 mm cut-out from the start.

Choose a brushed stainless-steel frame or a matt black mild-steel frame. Black ash with a white stone surround is the standard burner finish, with large black coals or fire glass as alternatives.

The 1,180 × 300 mm frame sits over a 1,120 × 260 mm cut-out, and the body reaches 150 mm below the frame while the controls stand above it. These are product sizes, not a building plan: your registered gas installer checks the actual unit, the housing and the clearances.

What is included?
The 1200 Drop-In fireplace with the frame you choose, the burner, the decorative stones (black ash for the burner and white stones around it), two vent covers and the instruction manual. The non-flammable housing, the gas supply pipework and the installation are not included.
Which gas does it use?
Chad-O-Chef makes the 1200 Drop-In for LPG, with a separate model for natural gas. Confirm your gas type with us before you order. The LPG model uses at most 0.84 kg of gas an hour, at an operating pressure of 2.8 kPa; the natural-gas model works at 2.1 kPa.
What size room is it for?
We recommend it for rooms up to 544 m³ (163 m²); the right size depends on insulation, building materials and climate. Without permanent ventilation, the room must be at least 210 m³.
Does it need a flue or chimney?
No. It is an indoor flueless gas fireplace, so there is no flue or chimney to build. An oxygen depletion system on the pilot (ODS min 18.5% oxygen) is part of its safety setup. Check the room and ventilation answers below before you choose its place.
Which rooms can it go in?
Not in a bedroom, bathroom, toilet or sauna. Without permanent ventilation, the room must be at least 210 m³; for a smaller room, your gas installer must plan permanent ventilation. We also recommend that it is not installed within 500 mm of any air vent.
How is it installed?
It drops into a 1,120 × 260 mm cut-out in a non-flammable housing. The housing needs two brick-sized ventilation holes below the unit, and the two vent covers finish them. A gas installer registered with SAQCC Gas for your gas type installs it and connects the gas at the 8 mm compression inlet.
How much clear space does it need?
To combustible materials, keep at least 100 mm at the sides (500 mm to curtains and fabric), 800 mm to the ceiling, 100 mm to the floor, carpet included, and 1,000 mm to combustible furniture in front. Your installer follows the full manual.
Can I put a shelf or a TV above it?
A heat-resistant masonry shelf may be fitted 800 mm above the fireplace. Never put a TV or other electrical equipment above it, and keep anything that can burn away from the space above the fire.
Which frame and stones can I choose?
Choose a brushed stainless-steel or a matt black mild-steel frame on this page: each fireplace comes with one frame. Black ash with a white stone surround is the standard burner finish. Large black coals or fire glass are alternatives, so ask us before you order.
What does the guarantee cover?
