WhatsApp UsMORE ABOUT THE MALUTI
The Maluti is an open, freestanding fireplace in mild steel that stands against a wall. Solid side panels frame the open front, so the fire faces straight into the room. Burn wood or anthracite in the fire grate, use the built-in damper to manage the draught and let the ash drawer collect the ash. A 3.6 m flue and a cowl come with it.
SLOW WEEKENDS
Afternoon light across the wall, the logs catching in the grate and the house quiet for once. The Maluti stands on its hearth with the fire facing the room, ready for a slow weekend with a good book, a pot of coffee or nothing much at all.
The hearth, couch, coffee table, rug, artwork and décor are not included. The 3.6 m flue and cowl come with the fireplace; plan the hearth and clearances with an independent installer.
A LITTLE PRACTICAL THINKING
THE FLUE
Three 1,200 mm pipes with two collars and a cowl come with the Maluti, for a 3.6 m flue. Need more height? Add extra 320 × 240 mm pipes and collars under Complete your setup.
THE HEARTH
Home Fires' manual asks for a hearth that reaches at least 350 mm in front of the fireplace and 200 mm beyond each side, and at least 1,000 mm between the fire and anything that can burn.
THE FIRE
Burn wood or anthracite in the fire grate. The Maluti is a fireplace, not a braai: Home Fires says not to prepare food in it, so keep the chops for the braai outside.
MEASURE THE WHOLE SETUP
Plan the fireplace, the hearth and the flue together.
The casing is 750 mm wide and stands 910 mm high on its plinth, before the flue. These are product dimensions: your installer checks the actual unit, the hearth and the safe clearances.
GOOD TO KNOW
Read your installation manual before you plan the hearth and the flue.
