WhatsApp UsMORE ABOUT THE S1
The WIKING S1 5kW Slow Combustion Fireplace is a full cast-iron, closed-combustion stove made for well-seasoned hardwood. Keep the moisture below 20%, split anything over 6 cm across, and lay logs of up to about 250 mm flat over the embers. Ash falls through the riddling grate into the ashpan. Then pour yourself something and watch it burn.
THE END OF THE DAY
The work is done, the kitchen can wait and the mug is still hot. Hardwood burns behind the S1's glass while the evening settles outside. It is a small ritual and a lekker one: find the good chair, sit back and say nothing for a while.
The flue pipe is sold separately. The concrete hearth, furniture, rug and kitchen are not included. Have an independent installer confirm the hearth, flue route and clearances.
GOOD WOOD, GOOD FIRE
THE LOGS
Use hardwood with a moisture content below 20%. Split any log more than 6 cm across, and keep the length to about 250 mm so it lies flat over the embers. No other fuel belongs in this stove.
THE FLUE
The S1 takes a 125 mm nominal flue pipe with 1 m of 6 mm rope and no appliance adaptor. Never connect it to a shared chimney or flue. Your independent installer selects the actual system.
THE ROOM
Allow 1,000 mm between the stove and household furnishings and 1,200 mm above it to a combustible ceiling, and 800 mm from combustible materials is recommended.
MEASURE THE WHOLE SETUP
Plan the stove, the hearth and the flue together.
The S1 stands 578 mm to its top plate and 616.6 mm with the flue collar. The 396 mm depth runs from the back to the curved front, and the door handle stands out past it. Have an independent installer check the hearth, the flue, the clearances and the floor for its 92 kg.
GOOD TO KNOW
Read your instruction manual before you plan the installation. S105HEU2 is the listed manual for the S1.

The stove is 450 mm wide and 396 mm deep from the back to the curved front, and the door handle stands out past that. It stands 578 mm to the top plate, or 616.6 mm with the flue collar. Allow 1,000 mm to household furnishings and 1,200 mm above it to a combustible ceiling, and 800 mm from combustible materials is recommended. Your installer must follow the installation manual that comes with the unit.
Allow a further 400 mm of hearth in front of the stove. A constructional hearth must be at least 125 mm thick, finish included. A 12 mm non-combustible sheet is possible only outside a recess and subject to testing, so read the manual before you plan it. Your installer confirms the hearth for your floor and room.
Yes, with free air around it: 200 mm at each side, 200 mm above and 150 mm behind. These gaps apply only in a recess. Have your installer check the whole opening against the manual.
No. Do not fit an extractor fan in the same room as the stove. It also has no outside-air connection, so talk to your installer about both early on, while your plans can still change.
The net weight is 92 kg. Plan how it will be moved into place, and have your installer check that the floor and the hearth can carry it.
The extended three-year warranty on the main body applies when bought new from Home Fires or an authorised retailer and registered within 30 days. Without registration it falls to 12 months.
