Hang a potjie from the potjie holder, keep the first chops warm in the warming drawer and switch on the light when the evening comes. Insulation material and touch-up paint come with it, so the build and the finish are taken care of.

WHEN THE DAY WINDS DOWN
One more round before dark.
The sun drops behind the windpump, three chops sizzle on the grid and fresh coals glow in the ember maker. Dad has his mug, his son has the tongs. Built into a stone wall outside, the 1000 Super Deluxe is made for slow evenings and a conversation that lasts as long as the coals.
The stone wall, counters, table, chairs, plants, food and drinks are not included. The flue pipe, collar and cowl are optional add-ons. Plan the flue, support and clearances with an independent installer.

THE GRID

Move the hot grid with the grid lifters, hang a potjie from the potjie holder for something slow, and keep the first round warm in the warming drawer while the next one cooks.

Made to be built in.
The body is 3 mm mild steel. Cover the sides, back and top with fibreglass insulation and leave a 20 mm expansion gap at the sides and back. Insulation material comes with the braai.

Plan the body, gather and flue together.
The 890 mm body height does not include the 320 mm gather above it, or the flue. These are product dimensions, not a building opening: plan the recess with your installer, who checks the actual unit, the open flap and safe clearances.

What is included?
The 1000 Super Deluxe in black, with a single slide-in door, a cooking grid and grid lifters, an ember maker, an ash pan, an ash disposal trap, an ash drawer and a warming drawer, a potjie holder and a light fitting. A spade, a poker, insulation material, touch-up paint and a guarantee certificate come with it too. The flue pipe, collar and cowl are optional add-ons on this page.
Which fuel can I use?
Wood or charcoal. Burn wood in the ember maker and rake the fresh coals under the grid as you cook. The spade and poker come with the braai.
How much cooking space is there?
The cooking grid is 460 mm deep, and grid lifters come with it. The potjie holder takes a potjie, and the warming drawer keeps the first round warm. Need the exact grid width before you order? Ask us and we will confirm it for you.
Is the flue included?
No. The flue pipe, joining collar and cowl are separate items: you can add the Homefires flue pipe, collar and a rotating or fixed cowl with a slip-on base on this page. Send a photo and measurements for a flue and configuration quote, and we will confirm the right parts for your setup.
Where does the flue connect?
At the outlet on top of the gather. The gather rises 320 mm above the body, and the outlet measures 440 × 350 mm. The minimum chimney height is 2,500 mm. Have an independent installer plan the flue route, height, roof details and support for your building.
How much space do I need?
The body is 1,045 mm wide, 535 mm deep and 890 mm high, and the gather rises 320 mm above it. The front frame is 1,145 mm wide and 920 mm high. Opened, the lower flap reaches 300 mm in front of the body. These are product dimensions, not a building opening. Have your installer check the actual unit and safe clearances.
How do I build it in?
Leave a 20 mm expansion gap between body and masonry at the sides and back, with fibreglass insulation over the sides, back and top. Your installer must follow the installation manual that comes with the unit. Insulation material comes with the braai. This is not a cut-out size or a full clearance schedule, so plan the recess with an independent installer. You can build it in indoors or outdoors, with the flue and clearances your installer plans.
Is there a stainless-steel version?
This page sells the standard version, with a 3 mm mild-steel body in black. Home Fires makes 3CR12 and 304 stainless-steel versions to special order. Ask us for a quote.
How do I look after the finish?
Touch-up paint comes with the braai, so you can refresh small marks on the black finish. The instruction manual under Plan your setup covers use and care.
What does the guarantee cover?
The firebox has a 15-year Home Fires guarantee against faulty workmanship or material under normal use, with regular maintenance. It does not cover replaceable parts, rust from harsh conditions or neglect, damage during installation, or installation and delivery costs. Ask us for the full terms.
